How to Brew the Perfect Cup of Ceylon Black Tea

Ceylon Black Tea has long been a favourite among many households , and over the years, tea connoisseurs have reinvented Black Tea with several flavours, making it all the more enjoyable for the avid tea drinker. What is Black Tea?

Just like most other teas, Black Tea is processed using the Camellia sinensis plant. Although the same plant is used in manufacturing, the method of manufacturing is quite different to that of Green Tea, Oolong Tea and White Teas. The main difference being, the oxidisation process, which makes the tea leaves produce a much stronger flavour when infused with boiling, fresh water.

How to Brew Ceylon Black Tea

Brewing tea may be a simple task to many, however, brewing the perfect cuppa requires you to follow specific steps in a strict manner, so as to make sure the leaves are infused correctly. Here’s how to brew your perfect cup of Ceylon black tea.

Utensils You Need to Make Black Tea

Before you prepare a fresh cuppa, it is important to take into account the utensils you need to brew tea, since using the wrong utensils can make an unsatisfactory beverage. So, here is what you need;

  • Teabags or loose-leaf tea of your choice
  • Fresh spring water
  • Kettle
  • Tea pot
  • Teaspoon
  • Cups and saucers (Depending on the amount of servings)

Process of brewing Ceylon Black Tea

As Dilmah Ceylon Tea is processed using traditional methods, it is important to stick to the recommended method.

  • Prepare fresh spring water in kettle for boiling (220ml person)
  • Boil water till it reaches a temperature of around 95˚C-100˚C
  • Prepare a tea pot or teacups (depending on the number of servings)
  • Add the tea leaves in the tea pot or teacups
  • Leave it to brew for around 3-5 minutes
  • Take teabag out/ strain leaves out of pot or cup

Of course, there are small variations in the process that should be taken into account when preparing certain types of Ceylon Black Tea.

Serve straight or with additions

If you are a traditional tea drinker, it is obvious that you would want to drink the beverage straight without any additives. However, if you are looking for a bit of sweetness, you could add some milk with honey, lime or even a bit of sugar.
